About RSPB Leighton Moss
Leighton moss is a wetland owned by the RSPB and is the largest expanse of reedbed in the North West of the UK. The main site has 5 hides as well as a 9 metre sky tower and a bird feeding station. There are also 2 other hides around a mile away overlooking a salt marsh, a great place to see wading birds.

Wheelchair accessibility: The Visitor centre is accessible for wheelchair users, there is also a chair lift upstairs to the cafe. There are also tramper mobility scooters available for hire that can access most of the site.
Terrain & Incline: Mostly gravel, with some wooden board walks. Almost no incline.
Usual Visit Length: 1-2 hours.
Benches: Benches are situated around the site.
Dogs: Dogs are welcome in the visitor centre (excluding cafe) and along the public footpath through the site, but must be kept under close control. Dogs are not permitted in other areas.
Bikes: No, however there are bike racks available.
Picnicking: Picnics are welcome on the benches outside the visitor centre, but no fires or barbeques please. Remember to take rubbish away with you or bin it.
Nearest Toilets: There are toilets onsite, including an accessible toilet.
Nearest Cafe: There is a cafe onsite, but it is up stairs (accessible via narrow stairlift).
Please note: Mobile phone coverage is poor in this area!
Public Transport
Visitors arriving by public transport receive a 50% discount on tickets - show your public transport ticket on arrival and ask about the public transport discount.
Trains: Silverdale Station is 1/4 mile, a 5 minute walk along busy country lane. Trains typically run every hour.
Buses: The 51 bus from Carnforth stops nearby and takes around 20 minutes and runs every 90 minutes to 2 hours.
Parking: There is parking at Leighton Moss for around 90 cars, 7 spaces are for blue badge holders. There is also an additional 15 spaces at the saltmarsh hides.

The RSPB manage this area in accordance with the National Landscape Management Plan. The National Landscape team support local landowners and land managers in the implementation of the Management Plan, which is designed to conserve the unique landscape of the area.
