History & Heritage

Carnforth Station Heritage Centre

Come along to the Heritage Centre and Refreshment Room at Carnforth station and take a step back in time. Experience the 1940s’ atmosphere of David Lean’s film ‘Brief Encounter’ which was filmed here. Website: http://www.carnforthstation.co.uk/

Heron Corn Mill

Heron Corn Mill is an 18th century Grade II* listed water mill and important local heritage site and visitor attraction within the National Landscape. The mill has been a base for local industry, powered by renewable energy for over 900 years!

Leighton Hall

Leighton Hall is the lived-in house of the famous furniture making Gillow dynasty. Explore the beautiful gardens, let the kids burn off some energy in the play area and enjoy some refreshments at the tea rooms. The Hall is only open from May – September, and only on certain days and for limited hours so check opening times before you visit.

Wildlife

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is an all-weather attraction with an indoor tropical house and outdoor exhibits including meerkats and monkeys.

RSPB Leighton Moss

Discover the home of some very special birds and other creatures – from breeding bitterns to red deer and butterflies! Relax in the sensory garden, follow the trails, do a bit of bird-watching from the hides and finish off your day with some lovely home-made refreshments in the cafe.
