This stunning area of coastal limestone grassland and low cliffs offers breathtaking views over Morecambe Bay. Rich in wildlife and fascinating history, it is an ideal spot for nature lovers, walkers and photographers.

Jack Scout is a marvellous mixture of cliff top and shrubby meadow walks punctuated with secluded routes down to tiny bays to explore. You can discover some of the 200 plants, such as yellow rock rose, explore the geology and archaeology or spend time watching wading birds feed across the vast expanse of Morecambe Bay.

The area hosts many breeding song birds which can be heard as you watch the glorious sunset from the Giants Seat completing that special day.

Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible

Terrain & Incline: A range of moderate undulating paths across the grassland. Cliff paths are steep in places and more challenging.

Usual Visit Length: 1-2 hours.

Benches: The giant's seat is a popular spot for photographs, with a superb view

Dogs: Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept under control at all times to help protect wildlife.

Bikes: No

Picnicking: Picnics are welcome, but no fires or barbeques please. Remember to take rubbish away with you.

Nearest Toilets: None on site. Public toilets located in Silverdale Village, off Emesgate Lane approximately 20 min walk from Jack Scout.

Nearest Cafe: RSPB Leighton Moss Cafe, Wolf & Us and in the centre of Silverdale (around Emesgate Lane).

Please note: Mobile phone coverage is poor in this area!

Public Transport

Trains: Silverdale Station (1.6 miles, 40 minute walk along busy country lane)

Buses: Emesgate Lane, Silverdale (1 mile, 20 mins)

Parking: Sand Lane is a single track lane and has very limited parking. It is advisable to park in Silverdale, although parking in Silverdale is very limited.

The National Trust manage this area in accordance with the National Landscape Management Plan. The National Landscape team support local landowners and land managers in the implementation of the Management Plan, which is designed to conserve the unique landscape of the area.
