Walks for All

Our Dementia Friendly Walks for All Programme runs every week from March to mid-December, with a monthly meeting in January and February. This project offers short guided walks for people living with dementia (or other conditions affecting their ability to access the landscape) and their carers, offering them the opportunity to be able to continue to enjoy our beautiful landscapes, wildlife and culture and to benefit from the support of walking with others.

The group meets on a Tuesday morning, setting off at 10am for a walk, and returning to a café or pub where attendees can purchase hot drinks and snacks.

The programme was launched in 2019, as a 6 month pilot project with funding from Morecambe Bay Partnership and initial Training from Dementia Adventure. With a hiatus during the lockdowns of 2020, the project has been running since, with support in 2023-4 and 2024-5 from a Farming in Protected Landscapes programme grant.

The Project Leader, Feleena Taylor, has been twice recognised for her efforts - as the recipient of the 2019 Bittern Award and a 2024 Bittern Certificate of Recognition.

The project wouldn't be possible without team of dedicated volunteers, who undertake annual training in supporting the walks and many of whom complete their First Aid Training with support from the the National Landscape.
