Wildlife Wander: Carr Bank, Sandside and Storth

A 2-3 mile walk including the fauna and flora of nature reserves, the geology of limestone cliffs , estuary shoreline and historic dwellings

The 2-3 mile walk will start at the privately-owned Dick Fell reserve on Guard Hill Lane SD 473797 (what 3 words: drizzly.obtain.detail). There is parking for ca. 10 cars through the field gate.

The walk will visit:

  • Dick Fell and Glasgow Hill private nature reserves
  • Storth Village, old village centre
  • Ship Inn, and ex shipping wharf, now under the road
  • Ex Hincaster Railway -1860`s Sea dyke
  • Dick Fell spring outlet on to the estuary @ Bomisher Bay [“the safest anchorage on the Kent Estuary”
  • Dalton limestone cliffs
  • Arnside Moss [really Carr Bank Moss] land reclamation and defensive sea dyke, and inverse “S “shaped oxen ploughed strip fields.
  • Carr Bank original hamlet/hall
  • Teddy Heights Landscape Trust Reserve, woodland, meadow and beck.

Return to Guard Hill Lane, to depart or self provided picnic.

Unfortunately only guide and support dogs permitted due to sensitive nature of sites and stock issue possibilities.

Please bring:

  • suitable clothing, including layers and a waterproof jacket. All grassland is infested with Deer Ticks, a significant % of which can carry Lyme Disease, shorts and bare legs not recommended.
  • water / drink
  • sunscreen (if sunny)
  • walking boots and poles (if usually used)
