The 2-3 mile walk will start at the privately-owned Dick Fell reserve on Guard Hill Lane SD 473797 (what 3 words: drizzly.obtain.detail).

There is parking for ca. 10 cars through the field gate.

The reserve includes dry limestone and wet peat grassland, a spring fed seasonal lake with rare Marsh fern and varied Urswick limestone.

We then progress to Teddy Heights woodland and meadow, owned by the Landscape Trust describing the coupe creation, conservation grazing and butterfly transect aspect of the management plan.

After describing the Hazelslack tower heritage we return along the original pre-railway route inland. There is rustic seating for a post-walk picnic and basic toilet facilities. This route is of moderate difficulty, using paths with uneven ground, inclines and stiles.

Unfortunately only guide and support dogs permitted due to sensitive nature of sites and stock issue possibilities.

Please bring:

  • suitable clothing, including layers and a waterproof jacket.
  • All grassland is infested with Deer Ticks, a significant % of which can carry Lyme Disease, shorts and bare legs not recommended.
  • water / drinks
  • Sunscreen (if sunny)walking boots and poles (if usually used)

A reminder e-mail with contact information will be sent out prior to the event.
